  • ‘We want jobs’

    Six months after Syracuse, New York, was ranked No. 1 for concentrated poverty among blacks and Hispanics out of 100 metropolitan areas in the country, the Urban Jobs Task Force launched its first monthly protest at the Syracuse Inner Harbor.

    Holding signs and shouting, “We want jobs,” dozens gathered, encouraging passing motorists to “Honk 4 city jobs.”

    The Inner Harbor is at the center of a controversy over hiring city residents for construction jobs — embroiling city and county entities, along with the developer who now owns the land.
